ROYAL HAT English Pub
There are many reasons to gravitate toward Royal Hat with loyal friends after a hard days work, but my main reason each time is usually for the craving of fish and chips.
My Australian friend first introduced me to this laid back and greenery-enriched place years ago, and we come here whenever we can on a Friday night to melt into the surrounds and listen to the sweetly floating about live jazz. Summer is always a blast here because you can sit outside under the stars for hours and hours with your favourite beer blend (Bass pale Ale, Guiness draft, Half and Half, Kuro nama, or just the standard yet satisfying nama-chu), and the chatter loud of suited business men extinguishing their work ethics.
The inner bar area is warm and homey with all the features and paraphernalia unique to English pub life. The boss of the bar walks about with a big grin always, and the staff are always helpful and obliging. There are lots of regulars who come here; both jazz lovers, and business people, so it's easy to strike up a conversation with somebody if you choose.
Fridays are the busiest with live jazz shows outstanding. Pick up a jazz schedule at the bar for more detailed information once you are there. The live shows are usually on the second and fourth Friday nights of the month with sets at 8 and 9. Try to throw in some coins of appreciation to the musicians when the hat gets passed around (though not compulsory).
The next scheduled show is August 28.
In September,
there are shows on the 11th 18th and 25th.
In October the 9th, 16th and 23rd have shows,
and in November, the 13th and 20th.
Opening hours are 11:00 – 23:00 on weekdays,
and 11:00 – 22:00 on Saturday.
Closed from 14:00 – 17:00 daily, and on all Public Holidays.
GETTING to ROYAL Hat
Royal Hat is only a very short walk from Exit 9 of Midosuji Subway at Yodoyabashi station. With your back to Midousuji street upon exiting, walk down two blocks. Royal Hat is down the stairs on the second left hand side corner (opposite the historically charming and handsome building Osaka House). The Old Rose Garden tea shop traditional is right by the Royal Hat (for tea and scones).
The main website for Royal Hat is located here with access map details.
